Why You’re Not ‘Blocked’; You’re Becoming

Vanessa Theiss • August 1, 2026

Let’s name it: That stuck, foggy, unmotivated place where nothing feels clear or inspired… it’s heavy.

You might call it a block. A rut. A plateau. Maybe even a breakdown.

But here’s the truth I want you to hear today, and not just in your mind, but in your bones: You’re not blocked. You’re becoming.

What feels like a stall is often the sacred in-between. The cocoon. The pause before the bloom. The quiet unraveling that makes space for your next becoming.

The Myth of Being “Blocked”

We’ve been taught that if we’re not producing, progressing, or “on fire,” something must be wrong. That we’re blocked. Behind. Broken. Losing time.

But the soul doesn’t work in linear timelines or checklists. It works in cycles. Seasons. Spirals.

There will be seasons of:

  • Expansion and momentum
  • Clarity and creativity
  • Stillness and surrender
  • Grief and letting go
  • Rebirth and reimagining

You are allowed to move through all of it, without labeling yourself as stuck or failing.

The Cocoon Isn’t the Block; It’s the Becoming

Think about the caterpillar in its cocoon. It looks still. Dormant. But inside? Everything is changing.

Its entire identity dissolves before it transforms into something it has never been before.

The same is true for you.

If you're feeling directionless, foggy, or uninspired… it may not be a block. It may be a deep soul reorientation. One that can’t be rushed, bypassed, or packaged into a productivity hack.

You’re not falling behind. You’re catching up to who you’re becoming.

Signs You’re in a Becoming Season (Not a Block)

  • You feel emotionally tender, but can’t quite explain why
  • Old dreams feel flat, but the new ones haven’t arrived yet
  • You crave rest, solitude, or stillness more than usual
  • You’re questioning what you really want
  • You sense something is shifting under the surface, but it hasn’t shown up in your outer life (yet)

If this is you, breathe. You are not lost. You are in the in-between, and it’s holy.

How to Support Yourself Through It

1. Stop trying to “fix” yourself

You are not a project. This is not a problem. This is a passage. Let go of the pressure to be anywhere other than where you are.

2. Feel what needs to be felt

Often, what we call a “block” is just emotion waiting to be processed: grief, fear, fatigue, or longing. Make space for it without judgment.

3. Let go of who you think you’re supposed to be

Becoming often means releasing old roles, identities, and dreams that once made sense but no longer fit.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need to be honest about what no longer feels true.

4. Rest without guilt

Rest is not avoidance. It’s integration. It’s where the soul does its deepest healing and whispering.

You’re Already Becoming Who You Came Here to Be

If no one has told you lately, you’re doing it right. Even in the fog. Even in the quiet. Even when you feel nothing is happening.

Transformation doesn’t always announce itself with fireworks. Sometimes, it arrives as emptiness. As pause. As the subtle cracking open of who you were, to make space for who you’re becoming.

So instead of asking, “Why am I so blocked?” Try asking, “What am I becoming?” And trust the unfolding.
